Business, Estates and Practical Questions

What are Knox’s opening hours?

The short answer

Knox is open Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 17:00. Weekend and public-holiday hours are set separately. On Saturdays Knox is open from 09:00 to 12:00, and it is closed on Sundays and public holidays. Opening hours are not always the same as the times when every service is available, because safe deposit box access, bullion collections, evaluations and storage intake can depend on staff availability and preparation. Confirm your service and appointment before you travel.

What opening hours cover

Opening hours are the times when the facility receives visitors. Within those hours, individual services may have their own arrangements. Safe deposit box access involves identity checks and an escorted vault visit, bullion collection depends on payment confirmation and stock, and evaluations or storage intake may need a specialist to be available. Knowing this helps you choose a time that suits the service you need.

How to plan your visit around the hours

Arriving early in the day, or well before closing, gives time for identification, the access procedure and any paperwork. If you need several services in one visit, for example opening a box and collecting bullion, mention this when you book so that both can be prepared. You do not need an appointment to access your safe deposit box during opening hours. Collection of purchased Krugerrands is by appointment only, visits to items in safe custody need at least 24 hours' notice, and cash-in-transit visits must be approved in writing at least 48 hours in advance.

Public holidays and busy periods

Hours can change on public holidays, over the festive season and during exceptional events. If you need access before a trip, a property transfer or an estate deadline, plan ahead rather than relying on a visit close to the date. Check with Knox if you are unsure whether hours have changed, particularly around long weekends.

What depends on you and what to do next

How long your visit takes depends on your service, whether your documents are complete and whether you are a new or existing client. First-time visitors usually need longer, because identification and agreement steps are completed in person.

How Knox handles this

Knox maintains its current opening hours centrally and updates them when they change. When you contact Knox, the team confirms whether your service can be handled during those hours, whether an appointment is needed and what to bring. On your first visit you are enrolled on Knox's facial-recognition and security systems; on each visit your identity is verified and your box is opened with your own key, as Knox issues two keys per box and keeps no copies. If hours change for a public holiday or another reason, Knox can confirm the revised arrangements before your visit.
