Business, Estates and Practical Questions

Do I need an appointment before visiting Knox?

The short answer

You do not need an appointment to access your safe deposit box during opening hours. Collection of purchased Krugerrands is by appointment only, visits to items in safe custody need at least 24 hours' notice, and cash-in-transit visits must be approved in writing at least 48 hours in advance. Even where a walk-in is possible, booking ahead lets the team prepare for your service, whether that is opening a new box, accessing an existing one, collecting bullion, an evaluation or a storage enquiry. It also reduces waiting time while you are carrying valuables. Tell the team what you need when you book.

Why appointments are common at vault facilities

Visits to a vault are rarely casual. Opening a box involves identity verification and signing an agreement, accessing a box follows an escorted procedure, buying or selling bullion depends on payment confirmation and pricing, and evaluations or storage intake need the right person and equipment. Appointments help the facility manage the number of people in secure areas at one time and give each client privacy.

How booking generally works

You contact the facility, explain the service you need and agree a time. The team tells you which documents to bring and whether anything must be completed beforehand, such as an application form or payment. If you need more than one service, mention all of them so they can be arranged for the same visit.

What depends on Knox and what depends on your service

Knox decides when appointments are required and how they are scheduled. Knox is open Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 17:00. The service you need affects how much notice is helpful. A routine visit to an existing box may need little preparation, while a first box application, a large bullion order, an estate matter or the delivery of artwork usually needs more.

What to tell Knox and what to do next

  • The service or services you need.
  • Whether you are an existing client or new to Knox.
  • Whether anyone will accompany you or act on your behalf.
  • Whether you are bringing large, heavy or numerous items.

Then confirm the time and bring the documents the team asks for. If your plans change, let Knox know so that the appointment can be moved.

How Knox handles this

Knox confirms the service you need, whether an appointment is required and which documents to bring when you make contact. For new clients, Knox explains any forms or verification steps that can be completed before the visit, so that time at the facility is spent on the service itself. You can call Knox on 011 646 1919.
