Do I need an appointment to buy bullion?
The short answer
It depends on Knox's current arrangements for the service you need, so confirm before you visit. Even where you can arrive without booking, arranging your visit in advance lets the team confirm that the product is in stock, prepare your quote and identity checks, and plan a discreet handover. If you are collecting an order you have already paid for, agree the collection arrangements beforehand.
Why dealers often prefer appointments
Bullion is high in value, and stock of particular coins and bars can change quickly. An appointment lets the dealer confirm that your product is available, prepare paperwork, complete identity checks efficiently and keep the handover private. It also reduces the time high-value items are on display in a public area.
Knox's current arrangements
You do not need an appointment to access your safe deposit box during opening hours. Collection of purchased Krugerrands is by appointment only, visits to items in safe custody need at least 24 hours' notice, and cash-in-transit visits must be approved in writing at least 48 hours in advance.
Knox is open Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 17:00.
What an appointment does and does not secure
Booking a time secures the team's attention, not the price. Bullion prices move with the market, so the price at your appointment may differ from the price when you booked unless a price has been formally locked. Ask how pricing works for your visit and whether paying in advance changes it. A quoted price is valid only within the AM or PM pricing window in which it is given. To secure it, proof of payment must reach your Knox sales representative before that window closes; otherwise the price may change. Coins are only released once the funds have cleared, and if payment is not made in time a new quote is issued and you are liable for, or refunded, the difference.
Preparing for your visit
- Know which product and quantity you want, or ask for a quote first.
- Bring your identity document and any other documents Knox has asked for.
- Confirm the payment method and whether payment must clear before you collect.
- Decide how you will take the bullion home, or whether to store it instead.
Plan your journey discreetly and avoid discussing your visit or purchase with people who do not need to know about it.
Buying without coming in
If you would rather not visit, ask whether an order can be placed by enquiry and paid by transfer, with delivery or storage arranged afterwards. Delivery and storage each have their own fees and terms, so compare them with collecting in person. Whichever route you choose, identity verification still applies.
