Box Pricing and Contracts

Are there discounts for paying annually?

The short answer

Some providers price advance payment more favourably than monthly payment, and some run promotions for longer rentals, but this varies and changes over time. Whether Knox currently offers a lower price or a promotion for paying annually is confirmed in its current pricing. Current promotion: when you sign up for a year, you receive a 1 oz silver coin. Compare the total cost over the full period and check the cancellation terms before you pay upfront.

Discounts, pricing differences and promotions

Three different things can make paying in advance look attractive. A discount reduces the price you pay for the same rental. A pricing difference means the advance rate is simply set lower than the equivalent monthly payments. A promotion adds something for a limited time, such as a gift or a reduced first period, and usually comes with conditions. Compare each on its actual value to you.

How to compare fairly

  1. Work out the total cost of paying monthly for the whole period, including any once-off fees.
  2. Compare it with the advance price for the same period and box size.
  3. Check whether both figures include VAT.
  4. Read the conditions of any promotion, including what happens if you cancel or downgrade.
  5. Consider what else you could do with the money you would pay upfront.

Knox's current position

Knox sets its pricing for each rental period and payment option. Rental is paid by monthly debit order or annually in advance, with a 5% discount for paying annually. Monthly rental starts at R240 for the smallest box and goes up to R1 537 for the largest, VAT inclusive. Promotions are time-limited and come with their own conditions, so confirm what applies on the day you sign rather than relying on an earlier advertisement.

When paying upfront may not suit you

If you are unsure how long you will need the box, are likely to change size, or would rather keep cash available, a lower advance price may not outweigh the flexibility of paying as you go. The choice depends on your own circumstances. Ask Knox to set out the options side by side in writing so you can compare them properly.

How Knox handles this

Knox sets out the price for each rental period and payment option for the chosen box, together with any promotion that applies at the time and its conditions. The client chooses an option, and the agreed price, payment frequency and, where relevant, promotion terms are recorded in the agreement before access is activated.
