Box Pricing and Contracts

How much does a safe deposit box cost at Knox?

The short answer

The cost of a Knox safe deposit box depends mainly on the box size and rental period you choose, plus any once-off fee, the VAT treatment and any optional additional insurance. Rental is paid by monthly debit order or annually in advance, with a 5% discount for paying annually. Monthly rental starts at R240 for the smallest box and goes up to R1 537 for the largest, VAT inclusive. To compare fairly, ask for the total cost over the full rental period rather than looking only at the monthly figure.

What you are paying for

A safe deposit box fee is a rental charge for the use of a box in a secured vault, together with the access service around it. It is not a charge based on the value of what you store. Larger boxes generally cost more than smaller ones, and the price can also depend on the rental period and how you pay.

The parts of the total cost

  • Rental: the main charge, which varies by box size and period.
  • Once-off charges: a key, set-up or administration fee, or a deposit, where these apply.
  • VAT: check whether quoted prices include or exclude VAT.
  • Insurance: what is included with the box, and the cost of any optional additional cover.
  • Later changes: charges for replacement keys, upgrades or late payment, where these apply.

Knox's current charges

Knox sets its prices and may update them from time to time, so confirm the current figures when you enquire. Whether any once-off fee applies is confirmed in the quotation. A once-off key admin fee is charged when the agreement is signed. The fee is R1 000 (VAT inclusive) and covers two keyholders on the box.

Promotions, where offered, change over time and should be confirmed when you apply. Current promotion: when you sign up for a year, you receive a 1 oz silver coin.

Working out what you will pay

Your cost depends on the size you need and how long you plan to keep the box. Choosing a box slightly larger than you need today can avoid an upgrade later, but you pay for that extra space throughout the rental. Ask Knox for a written quotation showing the rental, once-off fees, VAT and any optional insurance premium, then compare the total for the full period. A facility visit is a good opportunity to confirm the size before you commit.

How Knox handles this

Knox confirms the box size that suits the client's needs, the available rental periods and the applicable insurance option, and then sets out the rental, any once-off fees and the VAT position before the agreement is signed. The client completes the identification and agreement process and settles the applicable fees, after which access is activated.
