Bullion Pricing, Delivery and Storage

Can Knox deliver bullion anywhere in South Africa?

The short answer

Bullion can often be delivered to addresses within South Africa, but whether a particular address can be served, and at what cost, depends on the delivery service, the value of the order, transit insurance limits and the location. Delivery is normally arranged only after payment has been confirmed. Ask Knox to confirm the areas it currently serves, the delivery charge and the expected timing before you order.

How bullion delivery generally works

Precious metals are usually sent by a specialist secure courier or a tracked, insured service rather than ordinary post. The parcel is packed discreetly, its contents are not described on the outside, and someone at the delivery address must receive and sign for it. Dealers generally dispatch only once payment has cleared, because a delivered parcel of bullion cannot easily be recovered.

What affects whether and how an address can be served

  • The location, including remote or rural areas that couriers serve less often
  • The value and weight of the order, which may exceed a single consignment's insurance limit
  • Whether the address is a home, a business or a secure complex with access controls
  • Whether an authorised person will be present to receive the parcel

A large order may be split into more than one consignment, or collection or storage may be suggested instead.

Areas, charges and timing set by Knox

The areas served, the delivery charge, the courier used and the expected timeframe are set by Knox and its delivery partners, and they can change. Knox delivers throughout South Africa. The point at which responsibility for the parcel passes to you is also governed by Knox's terms. Knox delivers throughout South Africa using MDS Collivery, and remains responsible for the parcel until it is handed over at the nominated address.

Before you choose delivery

Consider whether collecting your order from Knox, or keeping it in storage at Knox, would suit you better, especially for high-value orders. If you choose delivery, check the address carefully, make sure someone will be available to receive the parcel and ask how you will be told that it has been dispatched. Keep your invoice and delivery confirmation with your records.

How Knox handles this

Knox confirms the product, the current price and the payment process first. Once payment has been confirmed, Knox confirms whether your address can be served, the delivery charge, the expected timing and how the consignment is insured in transit. You may instead choose to collect your order in person or to keep it in storage at Knox, and Knox can explain how each option works.
